Farmers Market Update

Today was #3- we had beautiful weather for once, and around 89 people came out to support the vendors. We had supplemental produce again, from Truly Living Well Natural Farm (East Point, GA), due to our main produce vendor having limited selection, although he did have more this week than last. He did note that his organic fair-trade, locally roasted coffee beans were not selling as well as the first 2 market days- maybe decreased coffee sales due to the rising temps? Altogether the offerings included: turnips, beets, garlic, vidalia onions, broccoli, strawberries, salad greens, herbs, starter plants of herbs and strawberry pots, aforementioned coffee beans in 4 varieties, cut flower bouquets, garden club merchandise (bouquets, t-shirts, wine charms, pressed flower bookmarks, memberships) natural doggie treats, and natural body care products. Oh, and we started a ‘Produce of the Week’ highlight- today’s highlight was on Kale and Turnips (somehow we ended up with no kale tho-). We had basic info on each (nutritional info, storage info etc) plus take home recipe slips that we got to taste-test thanks to Kat. She is the recipe guru /sample kitchen for the market, ensuring that we can recommend great recipes if you are unfamiliar with how to prepare a certain type of produce.

Stay tuned!
